UK Tour – a great success

The recent UK Tour was a great experience for all concerned.  For  a brief overview see Event Itinerary.   For some photos – see UK Photos and for some videos – see UK Videos.

Firstly we experienced great hospitality and a well run Ring meeting at Thaxted.  Some of the highlights of that weekend, as well as “dancing in” to gain full membership of the Morris Ring include performing the Offertory dance at Thaxted Church on the Sunday morning.  Refer to the Morris Ring’s Bagman’s Newsletter for more details of the weekend – see Newsletter No 95.  More reports about the weekend (& our involvement in it) can be found in the Morris Ring Circular No 72

After the Thaxted weekend our next stop was Nottingham where we danced with the Foresters Morris Men The weather for that evening may have been wet but we were warmly welcomed by our host.

Next (Morris) stop was Norwich where we danced with the Kemp’s Men outside the Cathedral and then outside the Ribs of Beef.

Next stop was Shere near Guildford where the Pilgrim Morris Men made us very welcome at the White Horse and also the William IV in Little London.

Finally it was off to Wrotham for the Hartley Ale and the Hartley Morris Men did an excellent job with the organisation of a great event.  As well as lots of good dancing the voices got a bit of exercise too culminating in a singing session in Penshurst Place.

Merry Christmas (2014) and a Happy New Year (2015)

The Perth Morris Men would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2015.

It has been a huge 40th Anniversary Year for us.  Some of the highlights include a 40th Anniversary Dance with the Fair Maids of Perth and the Mad Tatters Morris in Hay Street in March, dancing as a display side in Canberra at Easter and holding a 40th Anniversary Ale in September.  As well as this there were other events such as the annual “Down South Tour”, Fairbridge Festival, Moondyne etc.

Perth Morris Men 40th Anniversary Ale – a big success

The 40th Anniversary Ale was a resounding success.  As can be seen from the picture above and following this hyperlink Ale  quite a few sides were represented.  Also see – Flyer_Forrest Place_Final

Before the Ale there were well wishes from other sides including this card from Nor’West Arch – see Happy Anniversary from_NWArch Also well wishes came from as far away as the Forrest of the Dean Morris Men (Thomas Mockford) – See Stein and from closer to home this card from the Mad Tatters Morris (a Perth Border side) – see Happy 40th from Mad Tatters Morris

Lots of good feedback was received and typical of the feedback is this one received from the Squire of the Australian Morris Ring (Tim Beckett)- see Tim’s_Feedback

To see what the Adelaide Morris Men thought of it – see Headline

For Bill Parker’s report on the Ale see –  What do you do when you are 40?

For some Photos – see Photos

There was a requirement to present Limericks at the Ale itself.  Neil, Marilla and 5 year old Lucy Cooper from Red Raven contributed the following:

Visitor from Forest of Dean Morris

On Wednesday 12th of March, 2014 we had a couple of visitors.  Thomas Mockford  of Forest of Dean Morris Men and Anne attended practice.  Thomas taught us a dance and we taught him one of ours.

During the evening because this year is our 40th Anniversary Thomas presented our Squire with a collectors item – a stein that was made for the 40 year Forest of Dean Morris Festival.  A card was also presented from the Forest of Dean.

Often singing and Morris dancing are associated.  Sometimes as part of a dance but also after and during performances.  One of our number recently did a bit of research on the net to find some song books and found the below gems:
